Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation

Kawasaki—Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (hereafter “Toshiba ESS”) today announced that Toshiba ESS has finalized a contract with Samsung C&T to construct a 400-kV switching station for Fujairah F3 Combined Cycle Power Plant in United Arab Emirates (hereafter “UAE”).

This project was awarded to Samsung C&T as a full turnkey EPC* contract by a special purpose company jointly invested by Marubeni Co., one of Japan’s major trading companies, and UAE government entity Abu Dhabi Power Corporation. The switching station is scheduled to be completed in March of 2022.

The awarded project is a 400-kV class switching station that will be constructed in Fujairah F3, located in Fujairah, approximately 300 km northeast of Abu Dhabi in UAE. The supplied gas insulated switchgear (GIS) will be manufactured and shipped from Toshiba ESS’s Hamakawasaki operations. Major decisive factors for Toshiba ESS winning this contract were its established presence in UAE for more than 30 years, and its highly evaluated technical capabilities and reliable products.

Vast economic growth and increases in population, not only in UAE, but also in the entire Middle East, have led to a sharper rise in energy demands. As a consequence, the need for transmission and distribution facilities, as well as maintenance services for existing facilities and equipment, is growing.

Toshiba ESS is going to further accelerate its global expansion of this business, focusing on regions such as the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa, where power demand growth is eminent.
